Grand Review near Freshwater Bay
Artist: Livesay, R.
Medium: Aquatint, coloured
Print depicting the Grand Review near Freshwater Bay on the Isle of Wight. Freshwater Bay is situated on the south coast of the western tip of the Island. The Loyal Newport Volunteers were first raised by Ralph Leeke in Newport, Shropshire in 1803 in answer to a call from the King for volunteers to defend their country in case of an invasion by Napoleon. Volunteers were raised across the country to defend their home towns, and this print depicts the volunteers of Newport on the Isle of Wight.
