Gilfton Park, the seat of Robert Plummer Ward Esq
Artist: Oldfield, Henry George
View of Gilston Park in Gilston Hertfordshire. The house is described by Pevsner in his ‘The Buildings of England’, it reads,
“Large asymmetrical mansion of random rubble in early Tudor style with Gothic detail in the tower and entrance. Mullioned and transomed windows, stepped gables… (A porch from the original house, New Palace, dates 1583, with a bust of Queen Elizabeth in a niche, stands in te garden to the East…”
The house no longer stands as it was demolished in 1851 and another built in its place.
