Grotesque Figure over the Porch of Chalk Church Kent
Medium: Aquatint with etching
Detailed view of a grotesque figure carved above the west porch to St Mary's Church in Chalk in Kent. This porch was added in the 15th century, when the west tower was built. There is also a niche and several grotesque faces above the figure. There have been various suggestions, (for example that the tipsy looking figure is holding a flagon of locally brewed church ale!) but it is not known what the figure represents.
