This view was taken from the abbey's south transept, known as Poet's Corner because of its monuments to Shakespeare, Chaucer and others. The abbey is crowded with tombs and monuments to churchmen, scientists, writers, politicians and nobility. It was rebuilt in French-gothic style in the 13th century, including pointed archways, ribbed vaulting and an extremely high nave.
