View of Llyn Dinas in Wales. Situated in the Nant Gwynant Valley below the Historic Dinas Emrys- an ancient hill fortress, Llyn Dinas is a beautiful still, shallow lake. There are many old legends associated with the lake and surrounding area- it was here that Owein, one of King Arthur’s greatest warriors battled with a giant and it was at this site that the userper king Vortigern is supposed to have hidden the throne of Great Britain under a large stone. The 9th century historian Nennius, describes a pool in which a red and a white dragon were hiding – these were symbols of the Romano-Celtic and Saxon powers. Some believe this is the pool within Dinas Emrys. The two dragons fought, the red dragon won and ever since this has been the symbol of Wales.
