Artist: Varley, J.
View of Llandled near Dolgellau in North Wales. The bridge that can be seen in this print is though to be Dolgellau Bridge, sometimes known as ‘The Big Bridge’ which crosses the River Wnion. The bridge was constructed in 1638 but has been rebuilt after flood damage and was also widened to provide for modern day transport. The artist John Varley (1778-1842), was well known for his paintings of Welsh landscapes. He was a gifted teacher and had many pupils such as Cox, Dobson, Linnell and Mulready.
