Sketch of Lincluden Collegiate Church. A Benedictine nunnery, thought to have been founded in the 12th century by a Lord of Gallway, with a small motte and bailey castle, originally stood on this site but it was replaced in 1389 when a college was built here by Archibald 3rd Earl of Douglas. The college was in use until the mid 16th century when it was abandoned during the Reformation. The land was acquired by the Stewart family after this date and the buildings were altered again becoming a private residence.
