Manorbier Castle is situated in a narrow valley and was originally built as a foritified manor house rather than a castle. The castle walls were designed in a roughly rectangular shape with the gatehouse at one end and a large hall and chapel at the other. Two towers were built on the eastern side of the castle for extra protection but during its history the castle was only attacked once, when in 1645, during the Civil War, it was captured by General Laugharne for parliament.
