View of a site known as ‘The Meeting of the Waters’, in County Wicklow, Ireland. Located in the Vale of Avoca, it is about 45 miles from Dublin and is the region where the River Avonmore meets the River Avonbeg. This area was made famous by a poem written by Thomas Moore,
‘There is not in this wide world a valley so sweet,
As that vale in whose bosom the bright waters meet;
Oh! The last rays of feeling and life must depart
Ere the bloom of that valley shall fade from my heart.’
In an inscription beneath the painting the artist noted that in the foreground of the picture is a stone bridge and to the right is the seat of Captain Mills.
