Rural view of Burford, a small medieval town known for its prosperous wool trade and merchant's guild. The town's economic prosperity peaked in the late-15th and early-16th centuries. Burford also had an important inn trade, peaking in the 18th century but declining after 1812 when the London Road was diverted south of the town, effectively bypassing it.
