[The Bathing Machines and sea front at Sidmouth in Devon]
Artist: Cornish Esq., Hubert
Medium: Aquatint, coloured
The left section of a panoramic view of the seafront of Sidmouth in Devon. Sidmouth was a small fishing village which, by the end of the 18th century had become moderately popular as a sea-bathing resort. However it never became fashionable enough to attract large scale development and at this time the sea front was scattered with small cottages and a few larger Georgian terraces. In the corner of the print are sea-bathing machines.
