View of a slate quarry at Crabtree in Devon. Crabtree was a small hamlet on the edge of the parish of Egg Buckland. Egg Buckland is a few miles outside of Plymouth. The 1868 National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Wales wrote of the parish, 'copper ore has been found and the slate quarries are extensively worked'.
