One of a series of Industrial Scenes of England and Wales by John Hassell (1767-1825) and Francis Jukes. View of road near Harrow-on-the-Hill, a hilltop village. In the background of the picture the village can just be seen, including the spire of St Mary’s parish church- a prominent landmark which can be seen from miles around. At the time this print was made Harrow on the Hill was still relatively rural, it did not expand into a large town until the development of the Metropolitan railway in the late 19th century.
