View of the Mumbles on the Western edge of Swansea Bay in South Wales. The Mumbles are two small islands situated on at the end of a promontory on the west coast of Swansea Bay. The Mumbles lighthouse, situated on the larger outermost island was built in 1794 to guide ships around the hazardous Mixon Sands and the Cherry Stone Rock. Originally it was built with two coal fires but these were found to be inefficient and were quickly replace by one large oil lamp.
