View of Hanover Square in London. This was built on the 13 acre Millfield or Kirkham Close Estate. It was begun in the early 18th century and was one of the first great Mayfair Squares. The large newly built houses were at this time, still home to 'persons of distinction' although in the 19th century, it lost its fashionable status. In 1774-5 the Hanover Square Rooms were built here and were used for assemblies and concerts, showing many famous composers of the time.
