View of a road between the city of Bath and Hampton. The artist is Thomas Walmsley (1763-1806), an Irish landscape painter who left Dublin after a quarrel with his family and moved to London. He painted scenes at the Opera House, and then for the Crow Street Theatre in Dublin upon his return there. He spent 10 years of his retirement in Bath.
