View of the falls of the waterfall below the Devil’s Bridge. The falls of the River Mynach meet the River Rheidol at this point and this scenic point is located in the foothills of the Pumlumon mountain range, twelve miles east of Aberystwyth. The Devil’s Bridge itself cannot be seen in this painting- it is actually three bridges built one on top of another. The lowest bridge was built in the 11th century by either the Knights Templar or the Cistercian monks of Strata Florida to help pilgrims journeying to St David’s. The second bridge was built ion the 18th century and a third in the 19th century.
