In Briton Ferry there was a large house known as ‘Vernon House’, it was the home of the Vernon and Mansel families- the Earls of Jersey. It was a spacious building and was designed for comfort and family living rather than as a fortified building. The house had extensive views of the River and surrounding estate which at one point consisted of forty thousand acres of land.
