View of the Valley of Glencoe in the Highlands of western Scotland. The valley is dominated by the Pap of Glencoe, seen in the background of this print, rising to a height of 2,430 feet. The area is infamous for a Massacre that occurred here in February 1692 when a military force commanded by Robert Campbell under orders from King William III, killed many of the MacDonald clan. The clan leader Ian MacDonald had at first refused to submit to the King when he was crowned and for this he and his community were targeted. In the foreground of the print is thought to be the Bridge of Coe.
