View of Castle Island in County Roscommon, north west Ireland. Castle Island is one of 33 islands on Lough Key. It is about one acre in size and is situated about one hundred metres from the mainland. The remains of a three storey castle can be seen in this aquatint. Formerly called the Castle of the Island of Kerry, it is said to have been erected in 1220 by Geoffrey Maurice, or De Mariscis, Lord-justice of Ireland.
