An engraving of Fort Charlotte in the late eighteenth century, taken from a drawing by Josiah Billingshurst. Situated on a ridge 636 feet above sea level and overlooking Kingstown, the Fort was equipped with a moat and drawbridge, and a barracks that could accommodate 300 men. It was St. Vincent’s chief fortification and named after Queen Charlotte, the wife of George III.
