View of Whitehall Yard in Westminster. Whitehall consists of a width of street on the route between Charing Cross and Westminster and the Royal Palace- in the Tudor and Stuart periods the London residence of the Monarch and court. In 1698, the old palace had burned to the ground, and the monarchs never returned to live here. By the late 18th century it was a residential and a government centre.
