Wenlock abbey, Shropshire 19-2-b

Engraver: Green, Valentine & Jukes, Francis
Medium: Aquatint
Date: 1779

View of the ruins of the former Cluniac abbey at Much Wenlock, Shropshire. Originally the site of an Anglo-Saxon minster, it was established as an abbey for the monks of the order La Charité sur Loire after the Norman conquest. The chapter house is an excellent example of a building crossing over Norman architecture with the early English style.
