Briton Ferry in Glamorganshire on the South Coast of Wales. The name La Brittone was given to the area by the Norman settlers in the 12th century who used a ferry from here across the estuary of the Neath. The Welsh name of the town is Llansawel. During the 19th century the area became a centre for steel making.
