View of Yarmouth in the Isle of Wight. Sir Richard Worsley described the town in his book ‘The History of the Isle of Wight’, which was published in 1781; “The situation of Yarmouth is implied in his name and the town stands on the eastern point of land, at the mouth of the River Yar… This town, called in the ancient charters Eremuth, is the first in the island that obtained a charter of franchises… The town of Yarmouth, from having been a place of some importance, is reduced to a small village”.
