View of Great Yarmouth showing vessels braving the choppy sea. Yarmouth was famous for its herring industry. According to Daniel Defoe who visited around 1720, "they catch here [the herrings] in such prodigious quantities, that it is incredible". In the background of the print is St Nicholas' church. This has the distinction of being the largest parish church in England, with Defoe noting that the "old church, is very large, and has a high spire, which is a useful seamark".
