Daniel Defoe's 'Moll Flanders'
Daniel Defoe (c.1660–1731) created his disreputable heroine in 1722. "Twelve times a Whore, five times a Wife", Moll Flanders weds, beds and cheats her way around the country before being deported to Virginia, where she finally achieves respectability.
