Drawing of Cockermouth Castle, by Edward Blore
Wordsworth was born at Cockermouth in 1770. This drawing of Cockermouth Castle comes from a collection of architectural and topographical drawings made by his contemporary, Edward Blore. Blore was an architect and antiquary, and his drawings include many views of ruined castles.
Cockermouth Castle, originally a Norman building of 1134, saw action in both the Wars of the Roses and the Civil War.
