This is a plan of St Catherine's Point, the southernmost tip of the Isle of Wight. Steep narrow gorges or 'chines', cut by streams running down to the sea, dominate the coast. The drawing is made on rectangular sheet lines, enclosed by a black border. Fields are coloured brown where cultivated, and green or blank if untilled. Stitch holes along the margins of the map indicate that it was formerly edged with protective material, probably silk.
