Trafalgar Square
Photographer unknown
'Trafalgar Square, London, 1907'
This view looking along the east side of Trafalgar Square towards the church of St Martin-in-the-Fields exemplifies the effects for which the pictorialists strove.
It evokes an atmosphere – the emotional rather than documentary truth of a scene. The photographer is unknown, but an inscription on the mount suggests that the print may have been exhibited in 1907.
Gelatin silver print
