This drawing shows three sides and the top of a Roman altar at Doncaster. The stones have decorative carvings and a Latin inscription can be seen on one of the pieces. Doncaster was the site of a Roman fort which was probably called Danum. The fort was located somewhere near the River Don and remains of Roman iron and pottery have been found in the surrounding area.
