A view in ink of a summer house above the dock at Clifton. It was not until the 1790s that mass residential building began in this area. Until then there were a scattering of lodging houses to provide accommodation for the passing holiday trade. Clifton today is completely unrecognisable from this sketch, being now fully incorporated into the bustling metropolis of Bristol.
