This church has Saxon material within the church structure although it is difficult to say whether it is a pre-Conquest church because of an overlap between Norman and Saxon building characteristics. The parish covers the settlements of Clayworth and Wisetown as well as surrounding countryside. White's Directory of 1853 comments that, "The living is a rectory valued in the King's books at £26 10s 10d, now at £604, in the patronage of the Dean of Lincoln, and now enjoyed by the Rev. Thomas Henry M.A.".
