These children are being addressed by a plump Georgian gentleman. Grimm was interested not only in the topography of an area but in recording local people in everyday situations. He probably sketched this on his way to draw Prior Park. Prior Park, in Combe Down in Somerset, was an estate belonging to Ralph Allen. He owned local quarries in the area, from which he made his fortune by supplying the creamy white stone with which 18th-century Bath was rebuilt. Between 1735-c.1750, Allen built a grand Palladian style villa here.
