Hardwick Hall was built for Bess of Hardwick by Queen Elizabeth I. Bess was one of the most influential members of the Royal Court, and after the Queen's death she became the richest and most powerful woman in England. The Hall is the one of the finest examples of Elizabethan architecture in the country and life here was lived on a lavish scale!
