The Nottinghamshire village of Edwinstowe is situated within the woodland of Sherwood Forest. The parish Church of St Mary can just be seen in the distance. White's Directory of 1853 says the the village contained 1,006 inhabitants and 5,815 acres of land. It had some attractive woodland, farming land and some good open forest land for raising sheep.
