A view of the gateway of Farleigh Castle in Farleigh Hungerford in Somerset. It was originally built some time between 1369 and 1383 by the Hungerford family, with the building incorporating an earlier manor house. However the license to crenellate was only received retrospectively in 1383. The gatehouse was altered later. In this picture the family heraldry can be seen on the tower. The castle survived the Civil War and remained quite intact into the 18th century, although it was said to be "very ruinous" in 1701.
