A distant outline view in ink of Grantham in Lincolnshire. At the time Grimm made this drawing, Grantham was an important staging post on the main road to London. Several coaching inns remain to this day, most notably the Angel Inn, where Richard II signed the death warrant of the Duke of Buckingham in 1483. Pioneering scientist Isaac Newton and former prime minister Baroness Margaret Thatcher were both schooled in the town.
