View of Goodrich Castle in Herefordshire, showing one of its huge cylindrical towers. This was built in the late 13th century of local pink sandstone. The owners, the de Valence family wanted to enlarge the old Norman keep and incorporated it into a quadrangle, with these huge cylindrical towers on three corners. The castle was located protectively on a sloping hillside above the River Wye.
