View of Goodrich Castle in Herefordshire, which is located on a rocky slope above the River Wye. This shows the ruins of the castle interior including an archway. It is mostly built of local pink sandstone. The oldest part of the castle is the Norman square keep made of grey stone and dating from the mid 12th century. The castle was enlarged in the late 13th century by the de Valence family who enclosed the keep as part of a quadrangle with cylindrical towers on each corner and huge gatehouse.
