An outline view in ink of Kirkby in Ashfield parsonage in Nottinghamshire, with a procession of the schools to the church led by the Rev. Sir Richard Kaye, Bart., rector of Kirkby. Grimm painted this scene during a visit to Kirkby to see his friend and patron, the Reverend Sir Richard Kay. The scene of Kirkby children, with the boys and girls neatly lined up processing into church, is typical of Grimm's interest in recording everyday life in the village.
