When John Nash built Luscombe for his client Charles Hoare in 1800 the mock-castle style was the height of architectural style for those who could afford to indulge such an extravagant fancy. The grounds too reflected the horticultural trends at the time and were designed by the great landscape-gardener, Humphrey Repton.
