This pencil drawing depicts the gatehouse of Merton Hall in Norfolk.

The gatehouse is a fine example of Jacobean-style architecture. The main house was consumed by fire in 1956 leaving the gatehouse and a 19th century addition by Edward Blore, author of this drawing. Blore's building, erected in 1846, forms the main part of the present house. The style of the gatehouse closely resembles that found at Blickling Hall, also in Norfolk.
