Moreton Corbet Castle, Shropshire f.80
Artist: Blore, Edward
Medium: Pencil and ink on paper
Bartholomew Toret built this castle in about 1200 to replace an earlier timber building. In 1215 he was imprisoned by King John and the castle passed into the hands of the Corbet family. It was severely damaged during sieges in the Civil War (1642-1646) and was finally abandoned in the early 18th century. The family still own it today and it remains much as it is in this drawing.
