Thatersworth, or Tetsworth
Artist: Grimm, Samuel Hieronymus
Medium: Ink on paper
In the Middle Ages Tetsworth belonged to the manorial land of Thame and as such belonged to the Bishop of Lincoln. Due to its location on an ancient road network between London and Oxford it was an important stopping off point for merchants and traders. In 1482 the innkeeper at the local Swan Inn (being only one of few hostelries in the area) was indicted for charging excessively for food and accommodation.
