A view of the Crown Inn at Salford (Saltford) in Somerset, coming from Bath (five miles to the north-west) on the lower Bristol road. This Georgian inn was one of many built on the roadside to accommodate travellers. Diarists often commented on the quality of the rooms, food and drink available, rather like an 18th-century version of the modern day travel-guide.
