This pencil drawing depicts shops on The Strand in Central London.

The Strand remains one of the city's busiest thoroughfares, providing a southerly link between the financial centre and the West End. It is home to some fine churches, such as St Mary le Strand and St Clement Danes. The Strand is also the location of the magnificent Somerset House, built by Sir William Chambers in 1886. The locality received world attention in 1922 when London's first radio broadcast was transmitted from Marconi House.
