A view of the front entrance of Walton Castle in Somerset on the Clevedon Hills. The castle was actually erected in the place where an Iron Age earthwork had previously stood and was built in c.1615-20 by the first Lord Poulett to an ornamental, symmetrical design. As can be seen in the drawing the central tower is octagonal as is the curtain wall, which is interspersed with circular towers.
