A Family Tree
Author: William Cecil Lord Burghley
Medium: Ink on paper
This is a genealogical diagram. It forms part of an atlas that belonged to William Cecil Lord Burghley, Elizabeth I’s Secretary of State. Burghley used this atlas to illustrate domestic matters. The atlas contains many maps of Britain, but also includes genelogical diagrams, showing how mapping the relationship of individuals to each other was also an important consideration.
