This is a map of Brittany dating from 1594. The cartographer is named in the compass rose, as Radu[lphu]s Treswell. The plan is orientated north to the top and a scale of 3 ¼ inches to 8 leagues is recorded. Settlements are indicated by buildings coloured red. A single building represents a village and a cluster of buildings represents a town, forests are recorded by groups of trees. The settlements inland are often un named but the names of all those around the Gulf of St Brievx, South West of Jersey and along coast lines and waterways are carefully noted. It is annotated by Lord Burghley who has added ‘Isle de baz’. Below the scale bar is a further annotation in another hand; ‘Part of Britaine from Sir John Norris 1594’
